SEEKONK — There may be a Market Basket coming to town.

The owner of the supermarket chain, Demoulas Super Markets Inc., has purchased the Showcase Cinemas site off Route 6.

The Tewksbury-based chain bought the property for $9.5 million from NAI Entertainment Holdings on July 17, according to a property deed and the town assessor’s office.

A request to Market Basket for comment wasn’t returned.

Showcase Cinemas is now leasing the property from the new owners.

No new plans for the site have been submitted to the town.

“The planning board has not received any site plan submissions at this time,” Town Planner John Aubin said. “At some point we’ll receive either a request for a pre-application review with the town’s Technical Review Committee or a site plan application.”

The Showcase Cinemas is in a plaza on Commerce Way that is also home to Kohl’s, Best Buy, Target (which sells groceries) and other stores.

While there aren’t any other markets in the shopping center, there is a Stop & Shop in a nearby plaza where a Whole Foods is under construction. Also off Route 6 is a Walmart that has a grocery store inside.

There are Market Baskets in Bristol Place plaza in South Attleboro, Bellingham, Raynham, Fall River and New Bedford.

Another is planned off Route 1 in Plainville.
